I have become
an afterthought
in my own life.

Called if needed.
Summoned like a daemon
to assist their needs.

Dismissed as quickly
as the wind.

Put back on a dusty shelf,
to watch and listen
for another chance
to feel alive.

Wondering only
if I did enough,
I drift back to a ready state
and wait for the next call.

Thinking that a life of service
is not supposed to be this way,
that love is more than this,
as I fade away
to the ghost I have become.
